Gather Around the Story Tree is a retelling of traditional Caribbean folk stories and songs for a new generation. The series was exhibited at 198 Contemporary Arts and Learning as part of the inaugural Plurality Now exhibition in September 2023, and later featured in Sunny Bank Mill’s Lore exhibition in 2024.

These are tales of caution, magic, resistance, and tragedy. Characters such as the cunning Anansi predate the Transatlantic slave trade, yet in the years since the arrival of the Windrush Generation, these stories have largely fallen silent. This body of work reclaims and reanimates them, preserving some of the Caribbean’s most iconic island tales.
